Rising along the shoreline of Bangui Bay in Ilocos Norte, the Bangui Wind Farm was the first wind power project in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia. Its first phase, completed in 2005 by NorthWind Power Development Corporation, lined up 20 Vestas wind turbines along the coast, each standing about 70 meters tall and generating 1.65 megawatts, for a combined 33 megawatts of clean power for the Ilocos grid. The row of giant white turbines facing the West Philippine Sea has since become one of Ilocos Norte’s most photographed landmarks and a symbol of renewable energy in the country. These photos are from a 2010 visit to the wind farm.
