Pasigarbo sa Sugbo is Cebu’s own “festival of festivals,” held in August for the Cebu provincial founding anniversary. Cities and towns from across the province send their champion contingents — each representing a local festival — for street dancing and a ritual showdown that turns Cebu’s many local fiestas into one provincial championship.
The photographs here are from Pasigarbo sa Sugbo 2010. If you cannot tour the whole province, Pasigarbo is the shortcut: dozens of Cebuano festivals, costumes and choreography in a single arena on a single day.
The national version of the same idea is Aliwan Fiesta in Manila.
