Every January 9, millions of Filipino devotees join the Feast of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. The centerpiece is the Traslacion, the day-long procession that carries the image of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno — the dark-skinned, kneeling Christ bearing the cross, brought from Mexico in 1606 — from Quirino Grandstand back to Quiapo Church. Devotees walk barefoot, jostling to touch the image or its ropes, in prayer for healing, thanksgiving, and miracles. These photos look back at the Feast of the Black Nazarene in 2020.
