The Patapat Viaduct is an elevated coastal highway in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, built where the northern Cordillera slopes meet the sea. Running about 1.3 kilometers long and rising some 31 meters above the shoreline, it was opened in 1986 to give motorists a safer route through a stretch of coast once notorious for landslides.

It has since become one of the most scenic drives in the Philippines — cliffs on one side, open sea on the other, and the road bending with the coastline all the way toward Cagayan. We stopped here on our 2010 Ilocos road trip; the photograph below is from that stop.

On the same drive south, stop at the Cape Bojeador Lighthouse in Burgos.
