The Giant Lantern Festival (Ligligan Parul) is the crown jewel of San Fernando, Pampanga, the Christmas Capital of the Philippines. After the main competition night — held on December 19, 2015 at Robinsons Starmills — the giant lanterns of the competing barangays stayed on public exhibition at Robinsons Starmills so that visitors who missed the showdown could still watch the 20-foot lanterns up close through the Christmas season. Each parul runs thousands of bulbs through a rotor system that dances the lights to music, a craft handed down through generations of Kapampangan lantern makers.
