Every October, Angeles City, Pampanga, celebrates Fiestang Kuliat, its month-long city fiesta honoring the Holy Guardian Angels, Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary (La Naval), and Apung Mamacalulu. Among its most distinctive events is the Calesin Tilbury Race, a traditional race of two-wheeled, horse-drawn carriages — the calesa in its light tilbury form — driven at speed before a fiesta crowd. Kutseros bring thoroughbred and local-breed horses from across Luzon for the heats, keeping alive a mode of transport that was once everyday life in Angeles. These photos are from the Calesin Tilbury Race held during Fiestang Kuliat in October 2017.
