A Celebration of Roots: The Second Cordillera Festival of Festivals

The Cordilleras, a mountainous region in northern Luzon, Philippines, is a treasure trove of rich cultural heritage. This cultural vibrancy was showcased in the recently concluded Second Cordillera Festival of Festivals, held in Baguio City on November 11, 2023.

This grand cultural event was an initiative of the Department of Tourism-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOT-CAR), aimed at highlighting the region’s diverse and vibrant cultural heritage. The festival served as a platform to promote and preserve the unique traditions of the Cordillera people, while also boosting tourism in the region.

Six contingents participated in the festival, each representing a different province in the Cordillera Region. These contingents presented their respective festivals, showcasing their unique customs, dances, and traditions. The performances were a captivating display of the region’s cultural richness, leaving the audience spellbound.

A Showcase of Cultural Diversity

The festival featured six prominent festivals from different parts of the region. Each festival showcased the unique traditions, beliefs, and practices of the local tribes and communities. The participating festivals were:

The Second Cordillera Festival of Festivals was a resounding success, achieving its goal of showcasing the region’s vibrant culture and traditions. It served as a reminder of the importance of preserving and celebrating the Cordillera’s unique heritage, while also boosting tourism and economic opportunities in the region.

My Experience as a Photographer

I had the privilege of covering the Second Cordillera Festival of Festivals as a photographer. I was captivated by the sights and sounds of the festival, and I was honored to be able to capture these moments for posterity.

The diversity of the different cultures was one of the most striking aspects of the festival. Each contingent brought their unique set of traditions and customs, creating a rich tapestry of cultural expression.

I was also impressed by the passion and energy of the performers. Their pride in their culture was evident in their performances, which were imbued with joy, enthusiasm, and a deep connection to their heritage.

Overall, covering the Second Cordillera Festival of Festivals was an incredible experience. It was a truly cultural event that celebrated the beauty and diversity of the Cordillera region. I am grateful for the opportunity to have witnessed and documented this remarkable celebration of cultural heritage.
