Sto. Tomas, Pampanga, greeted Easter Sunday 2016 with the Sabuaga Festival, the town’s joyful festival of flowers. “Sabuaga” blends the Kapampangan words “sabu” (to shower) and “aga” (morning): on Easter morning, street dancers in bright costumes shower the crowd with flower petals, celebrating the Resurrection of Christ after the solemn observances of Holy Week. Barangay contingents from Sto. Tomas compete in the street-dancing showdown, one of the most distinctive Easter traditions in the Philippines. These photos are from the Sabuaga Festival held on March 27, 2016 in Sto. Tomas, Pampanga.
