Mud, rock gardens, river crossings and near-vertical climbs — an extreme 4×4 challenge is off-roading run as a timed competition. Modified rigs on oversized tires tackle a course built to defeat them, with drivers and spotters working as a team: one on the throttle, one reading the terrain and calling the line.
The photographs in this post are from an extreme 4×4 event in March 2010 — winches out, tires aired down, and more than a few trucks needing a tow before the day was done. It is motorsport at walking pace, and it is completely absorbing to watch.
The tradition continues in Pampanga — Angeles City’s Fiestang Kuliat still includes a 4×4 challenge; see the Fiestang Kuliat 2026 schedule.
