The Giant Lantern Festival 2017 once again lit up the City of San Fernando, Pampanga, as barangays presented their giant lanterns in the annual Ligligan Parul. The huge lanterns, animated by thousands of lights moving in time with music, are the pride of Fernandino lantern makers.
San Fernando’s lantern-making tradition is the reason the city is known as the Christmas capital of the Philippines, and each festival shows how the designs grow more elaborate every year. The photos in this post are from the 2017 edition, taken during that year’s trip to San Fernando.
