Grandpa’s Inn is a restored ancestral house turned inn and restaurant in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, a short walk from Calle Crisologo in the historic mestizo district. Staying (or simply eating) here is a heritage experience in itself: heavy wooden furniture, capiz windows, and family-heirloom interiors in a city that is itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We stopped here on our 2010 Ilocos trip. Between walks on the cobblestone street and calesa rides, it made an ideal base — and its kitchen is a good introduction to Ilocos cooking before the drive further north.

Continuing north from Vigan? Stop at the Cape Bojeador Lighthouse in Burgos.
