The Dambana ng Kagitingan (Shrine of Valor) stands on Mount Samat in Pilar, Bataan, honoring the Filipino and American soldiers who fought and died in the Battle of Bataan during World War II. Completed in 1970, the shrine’s centerpiece is a Memorial Cross rising about 92 meters above the mountain, with an elevator inside leading to a viewing gallery that looks over Bataan, Corregidor, and Manila Bay. Below the cross are a colonnade, a museum, and bas-relief sculptures telling the story of the war. Every April 9, veterans and officials gather here for the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) rites. These photos are from a 2013 visit to the shrine.
