The Kuraldal is a traditional Kapampangan dance devotion in which devotees dance in the streets as a form of prayer — for healing, for a child, for thanksgiving, or for a granted wish. Dancers sway and step for hours in front of the image of the town’s patron, believing the sacrifice of dancing itself carries their petitions. The most famous Kuraldal devotion is that of Sasmuan, Pampanga, for Santa Lucia, but the tradition is kept in several Kapampangan towns with their own patrons and feast days. This post features the Kuraldal tradition of Pampanga.
