Every 9th of January, Manila marks the Feast of the Black Nazarene with the Traslación, the solemn procession of the revered image of the Black Nazarene through the streets to Quiapo Church. It is one of the largest religious gatherings in the Philippines, drawing huge crowds of devotees who walk barefoot and hope to touch the image or its ropes.

The procession traditionally begins near the Quirino Grandstand and winds its way through Manila for hours before the image returns to Quiapo Church. For photographers, the feast is a powerful scene of faith, endurance and devotion.

The photographs in the galleries below were taken during the Feast of the Black Nazarene 2016 in Manila.
