Potipot Island is a small white-sand island off Barangay Uacon in Candelaria, Zambales — close enough to the mainland that the boat ride over takes only a few minutes, but far enough to feel like an escape. There are no big resorts on the island itself; what you get is clear water, fine sand, and the shade of the potipot trees it is named after.

These photographs are from our March 2010 trip, when Potipot was still a quiet day-trip and camping spot known mostly to Zambales locals. Bring everything you need from the mainland, and arrange your boat in Uacon.

We came back two years later — see Potipot Island v2.0.
