The Feast of the Black Nazarene 2017 once again filled the streets of Manila on 9 January, as devotees joined the Traslacion — the grand procession of the image of the Black Nazarene from the Quirino Grandstand area to Quiapo Church. The annual procession is among the largest displays of Catholic devotion in the Philippines.

Thousands walk barefoot alongside the carriage carrying the image, many hoping to touch the ropes or the figure itself, believing in its miraculous powers. The sea of maroon and yellow shirts and waving white towels has become the feast’s unmistakable sight.
